Zeal requires a company’s federal and state tax details to be submitted to ensure that required payments and filings are submitted correctly. Once the employees have been onboarded, the Tax Setup page will populate the states that Zeal will need information for based on employees’ work/resident locations.
Alerting
As employees are onboarded in various states, alerts will appear on the Tax Setup Page for any missing requirements.
Submitting Tax Requirements
To add the federal and state tax information in the Tax Setup page, head to the Company Dashboard and select Taxes on the left-hand column.
The required state information Zeal needs will display below the banner reading Missing Details Needed for the Below States. To add state information, select +Add to the right of each respective state.
For each state, you will typically see tax cards labeled: SIT Payments, SIT Filings, SUI Payments, and SUI Filings.
Payment cards need to be submitted in full for Zeal to remit tax payments. Filing cards need to be submitted and verified to file returns and gain Third-Party Administrator (TPA) access on behalf of the company.
Once all tax cards for a state are submitted and verified, the state will be removed from the Missing Details Needed for the Below States list.
Employers are required to ensure that all the missing state information is completed so Zeal can handle these tax obligations on the employer’s behalf.
Note: Any delays in providing this information could result in late payments and/or filings which could result in penalties and interest.
Tax Card Statuses
Here are the statuses to the Tax Payment and Tax Filing sections of the Federal and State Tax Cards:
- Not Started - this status means that no information has been added to the tax card.
- Pending - this status means the tax card was submitted and Zeal will need to verify that the information submitted in the card is correct.
- Incorrect - this status means that one or more fields in a tax card is incorrect. Typically, this means that a tax agency rejected one or more items that were submitted on the tax card and the employer will need to resubmit the tax card with the correct information. Our team will mark what field in the tax card caused the error and request for an update.
- Verified - this status means that Zeal has verified the information in the tax card as correct.
Note: if an employer needs to update any information on a tax card after it has been verified, the tax card status will revert back to Pending status after the new information has been submitted in the tax card. Zeal will have to verify the new information that was submitted
