Bank accounts allow your workers to securely link a bank account of their choice to receive direct deposit payments—whether it's employee net pay or contractor payments—on the check or payment date specified by you.
Setting Up a Bank Account
During onboarding, individuals will be prompted to provide their bank account details in the Bank Account Setup section. Each worker must supply the following information:
- Bank Name (Financial institution)
- Account Type (Checking or Savings)
- Account Number
- Routing Number
They will then be asked to confirm both the account and routing numbers to ensure accuracy. Workers can add multiple bank accounts if needed, but must select one as the primary account. This primary account is where all direct deposit funds will be sent. (Note: Zeal currently does not support splitting payments between multiple accounts.)
Where to Find Bank Information
You can view a worker’s linked bank account(s) by going to their profile in the People tab and navigating to the Bank Information section. This section will show:
- All added bank accounts
- Which account is marked as primary
- The ability to edit or add accounts
Updating Bank Information
You have two options for helping a worker update their bank account:
-
Request an Update from the Worker
You can send the worker a secure, white-labeled link (via email or other communication methods) so they can update their bank information themselves. -
Update on Their Behalf
You can also manually add or update a worker's bank account through their profile. Simply go to the Bank Information section on their profile to view, add, or change their primary bank account.
When Is a Worker Eligible for Direct Deposit?
A worker becomes eligible to receive funds on a future Check or Payment via direct deposit once their bank account is successfully linked into Zeal. Until then, Checks or Payments may not be disbursed to the worker via direct deposit.
Viewing Transaction Events
When payments are sent via direct deposit, you'll be able to see date/time transaction events that help track the payment status:
- Processing: The transaction is in progress.
-
Settled: The transaction is expected to have reached the worker's external bank.
- Note that this is just an estimate and Zeal cannot guarantee an exact settlement time. The timing may vary based on the external financial institution receiving the funds.
- Returned: If a transaction fails, the timeline will update with a return status and reason.
To view these details:
- Go to Pay History.
- Click into an individual Employer Check or Contractor Group Payment.
- Note that Transaction Events for the Employer Check or Contractor Group Payment debit is also available.
- Select a specific Worker payment sent via direct deposit.
- Review the Transaction Events to see a full timeline of statuses.
