Overview
Zeal includes a Minimum Wage Alert feature designed to help Employers stay informed about potential minimum wage violations during payroll processing. These alerts notify you when an Employee’s pay may not meet the required minimum wage for their stated work location. These alerts are informational-only, it's ultimately your responsibility as the Employer of Record to ensure compliance with all applicable wage laws.
Refer to Payroll Run for assistance setting up a payroll run in the Zeal Dashboard.
Where Do Minimum Wage Alerts Appear?
Minimum wage alerts are triggered when running payroll. Per shift, the hourly wage is compared to the work location to confirm if the wage rate falls below that jurisdiction's current minimum wage law. The alert appears:
If using Regular Wage and Hours Worked, the Employee's default hourly wage is used against the current minimum wage for their default work address.
If a shift is created for the Employee (either through the Dashboard or API) with an hourly wage amount that falls below the applicable minimum wage in that Shift's work location.

How to Check an Employee's Settings for Minimum Wage Violations
In order to ensure the Employee will not get flagged you can confirm both Employee's listed defaults Work Location and Hourly Wage.
- Under Profile Information for the Employee, there will be listed Work Location indicating the default location for their shifts, if none is provided on their Shift. This can be edited by an admin.
- Note if overriding this location on any one of the Employee's Shifts on a check it only affects that Shift and does not change the default listed here.
- Current Minimum Wages can viewed in the API via Get Minimum Wage Rules.
- Under Payment Settings for the Employee, there will be a listed Default Hourly Wage
- Note if overriding this wage on any one of the Employee's Shifts on a check it only affects that Shift and does not change the default listed here.
